Wendy Pledges a Day’s Pay to Help Farepak victims

Wednesday, 8th November 2006

Wendy Alexander has pledged to donate a day’s pay to help Renfrewshire victims of the Farepak crisis.

The Paisley North MSP will make a personal contribution of £120 to assist families hit by the Christmas hamper and voucher firm’s collapse.

Ms Alexander will also contact every retailer in Braehead to encourage them to help local people who have been left without money, hampers or gifts in the run up to Christmas.           Ms Alexander said: “A number of my constituents are facing a bleak Christmas as a result of Farepak’s collapse. “Mrs Hendry, from Renfrew, saved with colleagues and friends. They lost a total of £10 000.  “Another Renfrew resident, Mrs Ross, lost £1700. “These local people have, through no fault of their own, been unfairly punished for trying to do the right thing and put some money by for Christmas. “Consequently, I am donating a day’s pay to help those who have lost their savings in the collapse.  “I’m also urging retailers in Braehead to do all they can to help those affected.”
