Friday, 10th November 2006
Wendy Alexander has lent her support to a Renfrew grandmother who has lost her Christmas savings following the collapse of Farepak.
The Paisley North MSP has pledged to donate a day’s pay (£120) to those who have been left without money, hampers or vouchers following the company’s collapse.
She has also written personally to every store in Braehead asking them to support the Farepak Response Fund for affected families.
Margaret Hendry, 54, of the town’s Nethergreen Cresent, lost £670 when the company went bust. The catering manger has tried to raise awareness about the crisis by writing a poem entitled “Farepak?”
Ms Alexander said: “The collapse of Farepak has left a number of families in my constituency out of pocket in the run up to Christmas. “These hard-working families acted in good faith and, through no fault of their own, have been unfairly punished for doing the right thing and putting some money aside for the festive season.
“I’m donating a day’s pay to the Farepak Response Fund to help those who have been affected. “I have also written to 110 store managers in Braehead asking them to provide some much needed Christmas cheer for affected families.”
Mrs Hendry said: “I’m delighted that Wendy is campaigning for the victims of Fairpak’s collapse.
“Although I’m disappointed to lose my money, many people are in a far worse position than me.”
