Wendy Alexander has welcomed an announcement today that young people across Renfrewshire will be able to enjoy cheaper travel on buses and trains in a matter of weeks.

The young persons concessionary travel scheme will be introduced in January 2007. It will entitle 16 -18 year olds to:

· a third off single bus fares across the country

· a third off rail travel within Scotland.

Full time volunteers up to the age of 25 who are actively contributing to their community will also be included in the scheme.

Ms Alexander said: “I’m delighted that Renfrewshire’s young people will soon be enjoying cheaper public transport. “A third off bus and rail journeys will make a real difference to young people’s lives. It will give them greater access to work, education and leisure opportunities, all at a reduced cost.”
