-Wendy calls for apprentices made redundant to get help -

Wendy Alexander has obtained figures for recent local apprenticeship job losses. 25 apprentices in training in Renfrewshire have been made redundant since February. Sadly, only 5 of these former trainees have found alternative employment or training programmes – 20 are still looking for work.

Ms Alexander said:

“I want a dedicated helpline to be set up so that any apprentice who is made redundant can get in touch and be helped to find a new training place.”

She continued by saying:

“I am calling on the Scottish Government to guarantee that any apprentice made redundant will be able to complete their training. We simply can not give up and let young talent go to waste. We must develop the younger generation who are entering the workforce. Young trainees are not being allowed to complete their training. This is wrong. More must be done to let these trainees complete their training.”

“Failure to deliver on this pledge to apprentices is a betrayal of our young people’s hopes and aspirations. It is also creating a skills shortage in the future which will undermine the economy’s recovery.”
