"...her campaigning against education cuts is good news for parents" - Rachael Ewing, Seedhill
" Last night Libs voted thru the VAT rise. Scottish families will be £400 worse off on average and the hit on businesses will cost jobs. "Follow Me what is this?
DON’T LEAVE SCOTLAND OUT IN THE COLD
Many readers may have seen articles, including in the PDE, offering money off a replacement boiler. The problem is the scheme only applies in England and Wales because the SNP Government have so far refused to introduce it in Scotland despite our colder weather up here.
Ten years ago with Donald Dewar I helped create the free central heating systems scheme for pensioners which ran for a decade. I was proud of the fact there was no means-testing involved. I reasoned if an elderly person does not have a central heating system it is because they cannot afford it. This scheme was scrapped by the SNP Government last year. Read more »
Renfrew politicians Jim Sheridan & Wendy Alexander reacted with dismay to the decision of Strathclyde Partnership for Transport to approve their budget plan which will end 500 years of history by scrapping the Renfrew Ferry.
On hearing the decision the Labour MP said, “This is very disappointing. I had hoped that given the strength of feeling demonstrated by the people of Renfrewshire that the SPT would have seen this proposal as a mistake and reconsidered their position. Read more »

2 IN 3 KNIFE CRIMINALS WOULD GO FREE UNDER SNP’S ‘SOFT-TOUCH’ PLANS
WENDY ALEXANDER – Campaigns are not enough action on knife crime
Following Kelly McGee’s powerful pleas in the Paisley Daily Express, and visit to Parliament this week to promote mandatory sentences for knife crime, Wendy Alexander threw her weight behind Kelly’s campaign. Wendy added her view to calls for the Scottish Government to back mandatory minimum sentences for knife crime. Read more »
I have been inundated with people wanting to sign up to save the ferry. I will be joining other campaigners on Friday morning to present the case.
There are moving comments on my petition in defence of the Ferry. People from the Ferry’s past, present, and hopefully it’s future, wanting to have their say. I am urging SPT to read these representations and think again.

Wendy Alexander MSP for Paisley North today yesterday laid a motion in Parliament calling on her fellow MSPs, and the Scottish Parliament to back the campaign to save the Renfrew Ferry.
Wendy said
“I want the ferry saved. There are petitions all over Renfrew. There was a good crowd on Sunday. There will be a lobby of the crucial SPT meeting on Friday. If necessary the Scottish Government should step in. Read more »
Wendy Predicts Up To 964 Pupils Could Be Affected
The attached table shows the number of secondary pupils who could lose their school buses.
Wendy said:
“I do not believe 964 secondary pupils should have their right to a school bus threatened. It will save less than half a million pounds a year and would cause great anxiety amongst parents whilst adding significantly to road congestion, carbon emissions and worry about children walking in the dark. Comment from Wendy Alexander in response to TESCO Press Statement on 15/01/10
Wendy said:
“Lady Speirs would be turning in her grave. Tesco should not be using an anonymous family to explain away why the Town Centre regeneration project has not had the green light”
“It is more than 3 years since Tesco promised to rebuild Linwood Town Centre. We are still waiting. Tesco are trying to gloss over the fact that this project has never had sign off by the Tesco board. The foot-dragging must stop” Read more »

Once in a while an issue of such importance arises that you feel obliged to act.
The foot dragging and broken promises by Tesco over the future of Linwood Town Centre is one such issue. I have now written to Tesco’s Chief Executive in the strongest possible terms – see below – about the damage his company’s delay, inaction, and broken promises are causing to my Linwood constituents. I realise many of you live in Renfrew or Paisley – but for future promises by Tesco to Paisley or Renfrew should not be allowed to deflect attention from letting Linwood down. Read more »
