Fight Must Go On to Revitalise Our Town
The redevelopment of Paisley town centre is an issue many local people feel strongly about.
Paisley deserves a modern town centre with new shops, dining, leisure facilities and homes.

With the excitement of the election over, it’s been great getting back to business in the Scottish Parliament again.
Being re-elected as your MSP for Paisley North is a tremendous honour.
This week I met with the Lord Advocate, the Procurator Fiscal and local senior police officers in Paisley to discuss progress on combating crime. Renfrewshire residents are set to benefit from a major overhaul of criminal justice agencies.
Prof Andrew Hughes-Hallet, on Thursday 1st March, reflected on Scotland’s fiscal position since his departure. His recognition that “the best we can do is estimate the deficit on the basis of estimates of revenues expenditures made in the General Expenditures and Revenues (GERS) framework” is welcome, and in line with the findings of a recent Finance Committee evidence session.
Perhaps my gratitude tonight should be reserved for those of you who have forked out £1000 a table –
On my calculations that works out at around £1 a word. So if you wonder why I talk rather quickly – it is only because I value your money.
Globalisation is biggest the economic challenge of our age. Competition is increasingly not simply from “down the road” but from “across the globe”.

Good evening – and happy anniversary!
Let me begin with my vision for Scotland.
By 2020 my children will be 14, and all going well, they will be starting to plan for their futures.
I hope the country they inherit will be outward looking, fair- minded, and multi-cultured. They will be proud of their past but feel citizens of Scotland, Britain, Europe and the world.
For most of us the beginning of a New Year is a time of optimism, a chance to make a fresh start. But for older members of our community the turn of the year can be a daunting prospect. The cold snap puts Renfrewshire’s most vulnerable residents at the risk.
That’s why I’m delighted the Labour-led Scottish Executive has expanded its popular Central Heating Programme.
The SNP have had a bad week. This was the week when the choice before the people of Scotland next May came into focus.
May 2007 marks the 300th anniversary of the Union and coincides with the Scottish Parliament elections at which the SNP will advocate ending that Union; a position that would trade significant union benefits for an irrationaa risky gamble on volatile oil revenues.
