CHRISTMAS SOLDIER SHOEBOX APPEAL

Monday, 30th November 2009

Many Thanks for showing an interest in this appeal. Unfortunately over the last few days, since submitting my column words to the Paisley Daily Express, this appeal by organisers HART – High Access Rescue Team has run into difficulties in around their talks with the MOD about the logistics of getting the boxes to the intended recipients in Afghanistan. Understandably that part of the exercise would likely require the largest amount of administering to get them to the right people – including, I would imagine security checking of all boxes.

Whilst the detail is being discussed between the MOD and the appeal organisers they have decided to postpone for the time being.

They (Hart) are still hoping to participate in Troop Aid’s similar Grab-A-Bag appeal. When Troops return to the United Kingdom from the war zones they arrive back without their personal effects or clothing. The objective of Troop Aid is to supply the “basic essentials” when service casualties return from serving their country overseas.

So if you are still interested in supporting our servicemen this Christmas  this idea take a look on their website http://www.hartrescue.org.uk/pageview.asp?pshow=166 or indeed http://www.helpforheroes.org.uk/ for latest news

Meanwhile I will also keep my eye out to see if the shoebox appeal returns.
Best wishes
