Icy Roads and Pavements – Lobbying sees results

Thursday, 7th January 2010

All the lobbying seems to be helping produce the sort of response we need!

Statement from Renfrewshire Council yesterday evening:

Renfrewshire Council has secured extra supplies of salt and grit which is enabling it to step up its efforts to combat the freezing weather.

The council has received an additional delivery of 200 tons of salt and purchased 1000 tons of grit. Another 2000 tons of grit are due to be delivered later this week.

Those supplies will support additional measures to help residents and motorists get about.

In addition to gritting of main routes and town centres, there will be increased gritting of areas around schools, care homes, libraries, sports centres and council offices. 300 grit bins located in towns and villages across Renfrewshire will be refilled.

Staff are being redeployed to have the maximum impact on snow clearing and gritting duties.

Almost 100 environmental services employees have been reallocated for gritting duties. 14 teams of three employees are also going out on manual gritting work.

The weather and the supplies of grit and salt will continue to be monitored on a daily basis.
