THE SNP’S 10 POINTS OF FAILURE IN RENFREWSHIRE SHOW AN EDUCATION SYSTEM IN CRISIS

Education Secretary Fiona Hyslop should apologise to parents, pupils and teachers as she comes to Renfrewshire to sign the councils Single Outcome Agreements today (Wednesday August 5), according to Scottish Labour.

The Education minister comes to local authority as Labour reveal the SNP’s ten points of failure in Renfrewshire including falling teacher numbers, cuts in spending, one of the worst pupil teacher ratios and lack of progress on building new schools.

Labour Shadow Education Secretary Rhona Brankin said:

“The SNP record on Renfrewshire is shameful. The figures do not lie and Fiona Hyslop should be apologising to every pupil, parent and teacher for her woeful handling of education policy.

“Spending is down, teacher numbers down, class sizes up in many primary classes and the schools building programme has almost stopped.

“Added to broken promises on providing two hours of PE in schools and her treatment of student teachers her record of failure across Scotland shows an SNP government that doesn’t care about education.”

Paisley North MSP Wendy Alexander added:

“People in Renfrewshire are not happy with the SNP failures in education. They can see clearly how their schools have been damaged by the SNP. This 10 point record of failure is clear. Education in Refrewshire is not safe under the SNP.

“When Fiona Hyslop comes to Renfrewshire today she needs to hear a clear message that parents here will not put up with what they are being offered at the moment. Our children deserve better than a clueless education secretary and an SNP council that is complicit with these cuts.”
