- Wendy pledges to campaign on for more Cash for Paisley from Town Centre Regeneration Fund -

Local MSP Wendy Alexander said:

“I regret that Paisley has received only half the monies bid for – not even the full amount required for the Arnotts site with nothing left over for Littlewoods, public transport improvements, and shop front improvements.

Even more concerning is that Paisley has come ninth in the funding league table despite its status as Scotland’s most famous town.

I am sorry to see Paisley lose out to the likes of Alloa, Ayr, Kirkcaldy, Dumfries, Edinburgh, North Lanarkshire and Glasgow – all of whom got more than Paisley.

How can the SNP justify Paisley’s need being less than Alloa, Ayr or Edinburgh.

This half hearted commitment to the town only convinces me to redouble my efforts for Paisley to receive the full amount bid for in the next bidding round. Paisley’s need is greater than many others who have benefited today and I will continue to work tirelessly to make that case.

It is encouraging that Renfrewshire’s other towns and villages did get their fair share of the funds – but this should not have been at the expense of Paisley town centre.

A big thank you to all those that joined in the campaign to ensure Paisley received its fair share. ”
