Paisley politicians have heart to heart with pharmacy team
Friday, 21st May 2010
Hugh Henry, MSP for Paisley South and Wendy Alexander, MSP for Paisley North and Douglas Alexander MP for Paisley and Renfrewshire South visited Lloydspharmacy, High Street, Paisley, today. The local politicians met with the healthcare team to discuss the importance of looking after your heart and regularly monitoring blood pressure.
One in three adults in Scotland has high blood pressure – and there are often no symptoms. If left untreated, high blood pressure can lead to heart problems and strokes as well as kidney and eye damage. To help people manage their health better, Lloydspharmacy is campaigning for everyone to have their blood pressure checked.
Eleanor Paton, Pharmacy Cluster Manager for Lloydspharmacy said: “We’re delighted that Hugh Henry, Wendy Alexander and Douglas Alexander took time to visit our pharmacy in Paisley. It’s great to have the opportunity to demonstrate our commitment to supporting local people and helping them to take responsibility for their own health. Community pharmacists are becoming partners in the delivery of healthcare, helping to improve not only the health and
well-being of whole communities but of individuals who can come to their pharmacist for advice and care.”
Wendy said, “Blood pressure related problems can be hidden. The only way to really know is to have a simple check. I commend Lloyds pharmacy’s campaign to inform the public how worthwhile and easy they are making it to get your blood pressure checked by offering a free drop-in service.”
Lloydspharmacy offers free blood pressure checks in all its pharmacies. For further information ask a member of the Lloydspharmacy healthcare team or visit www.lloydspharmacy.com/heart.
