Renfrewshire MPs/MSPs Supermarket Surgery, ASDA Linwood, Friday 12th February
Thursday, 18th February 2010
Wendy Alexander MSP, Jim Sheridan MP, Hugh Henry MSP & Douglas Alexander MP all turned out at a local supermarket during one of it’s busiest hours to offer advice to constituents.
Wendy said “3-7 pm on a Friday is the store’s busiest time as people stock up for the weekend – so it is a good time to offer extra services like MP/MSPs surgeries to customers. Lots and lots of people were looking for help. Parents worried about bus cuts, renewed calls for a crossing in Linwood Road, problems with neighbours, support for GARL – everyone had their say on their way home. My office is now hard at work trying to get some action.
Jim Sheridan said “Many thanks to ASDA for allowing the local constituency politicians of Renfrewshire to meet and engage with their constituents and listen to their concerns. It was extremely worthwhile and I sincerely hope those constituents who met with us found it beneficial. We hope this will be the first of regular joint public surgeries throughout Renfrewshire.”
Hugh Henry MSP said “I was pleased to meet so may constituents at a very busy surgery. It’s an ideal opportunity to make it easy for the public to speak to their representatives. Many thanks to ASDA and its staff for their help.”
Douglas Alexander MP said “It was good to be able to help so many local constituents at one surgery. It was my fourth advice surgery on Friday, and easily the busiest. Parent after parent raised the issue of the cuts to school buses, and I’ll now be pressing the SNP leadership to think again and cancel their cuts plan.”
Brian Boyle the manager of ASDA said “the ASDA Linwood has 100,000 people through the door every week. It is the busiest supermarket in the West of Scotland. We like to be at the heart of the community so to offer this extra to our customers, to stop by if they wished, was a pleasure.”
