Secondary Schools Transport Cuts
Monday, 18th January 2010Wendy Predicts Up To 964 Pupils Could Be Affected
The attached table shows the number of secondary pupils who could lose their school buses.
Wendy said:
“I do not believe 964 secondary pupils should have their right to a school bus threatened. It will save less than half a million pounds a year and would cause great anxiety amongst parents whilst adding significantly to road congestion, carbon emissions and worry about children walking in the dark.
SNP Councillors could have found the alleged savings from cutting buses – five times over if they had just collected all the unpaid council tax this year – or saved it three times over if they just collected unpaid rates of over £1.2m this year.
Finally if Councillors had money to splash around on 22% rises between 2007-09 for all the heads of service including the education department whilst 210 teaching posts were axed – it shows how far we have to go in keeping education in Renfrewshire on the right tracks and in line with what parents want.”
