Shortroods Pensioners revive the festive cheer to see January out in style

Friday, 29th January 2010

Shortrood pensioners gathered at the Beechwood Community Centre on Friday 29th of January for their, now traditional, ‘Late late Christmas lunch’ . With the December Christmas rush on and everyone so busy then, a few years ago these Shortroods seniors decided to postpone their Christmas Festive Lunch Party to later in the New Year – and give the community’s pensioners something to look forward to in the quieter long month of January.

Wendy, local Councillors and Jim Sheridan MP gather with party organisers including management Committee leader Jesse James (2nd row centre)Wendy said “I was delighted to be invited to join the Shortrood pensioners in the Beechwood Community centre for their ‘Late late Christmas lunch’. A super lunch provided by local caterers, raffle, and then the music and dancing had just begun as I sadly had to leave for a meeting. It’s a great way to end a bleak winter month. What always strikes me at Beechwood events is the sense of a tight knit community group. Most of these pensioners have lived in Shortroods for many years, they look out for each other and thoroughly enjoy laughing together at a good party. A lot of this is down to the Beechwood Centre management committee who work hard organising a variety of classes and clubs for all ages most days every week.”
