UTTER EMBARASSMENT FOR SNP COUNCIL

- Stats reveal Renfrewshire is only SNP-led council to cut education spend -

Official Government Statistics now reveal that Renfrewshire is one of the only councils in Scotland to be making absolute cuts in its education expenditure this year. To add insult to injury, Renfrewshire Council are the only SNP-led council in Scotland to be making cuts. This deals an embarrassing blow to the local administration given their own party is in power at Holyrood.

Paisley North MSP Wendy Alexander said:

“Here are figures from the SNP Government saying that the SNP-led Renfrewshire Council are making cash cuts – not just real terms cuts.”

“It is for the SNP in Renfrewshire to explain why their Government casts them as the only SNP-led council in the country to be making cuts.”

“It is what we have come to expect from the SNP in Renfrewshire –

 - Education having to make the largest cash savings
 - As of this year the worst pupil teacher ratios of any Scottish secondaries.
 - Only 5 of last years 169 probationers with a permanent teaching job.
 - And to top that off we see South school closed and just one new school promised compared to the 10 brand new schools Labour commissioned in Renfrewshire and the refurbishment of 11 more, 2000-08.”
