Wendy: Get Ready For Multiples

Thursday, 24th June 2010

With ‘Twins, Triplets and More Week’ starting next Monday (28 June – 4 July), Paisley North MSP Wendy Alexander is keen to raise awareness of an important new initiative, which seeks to enable new and expectant parents of multiples to enjoy their time with their new babies.

Next Monday, June 28th, Tamba, the Twins And Multiple Birth Association, will launch a groundbreaking initiative, ‘Get Ready For Multiples’, designed to prepare families and professionals for the unique challenges ahead.

The initiative includes free and subsidised pre- and antenatal courses, a free practical guide to help mothers who may be suffering from PND and a free telephone Helpline – Twinline : 0800 138 0509

Ms. Alexander said;

“At present nearly one in five mothers of multiple births develop Post Natal Depression (PND) – that is almost double the number of mothers of singletons who experience this debilitating condition.

“Until now just one in three mothers have had access to multiple-specific parent education, which is really worrying as research shows that this can improve outcomes for parents and their babies.”
