WENDY ON FLYGLOBESPAN GOING INTO ADMINISTRATION
Thursday, 17th December 2009
Following news that Flyglobespan has been placed into administration, Labour MSP for Paisley North Wendy Alexander, said:
“This is a hugely worrying announcement for the 800 staff and all their families across Scotland who will be desperately concerned.
“This is a terrible blow to the Scottish aviation industry as Globespan was our biggest airline. Globespan’s collapse is a further blow for Glasgow Airport and all the Globespan employees based there. The Airport is still reeling from the vindictive cancellation of the Airport Rail Link whilst other lines like the Borders Rail Link have got the go ahead.
The Scottish government must step in to help the company’s 800 staff and provide support. I am calling on them to use the PACE agency to help Globespan employees find alternative employment”.
“It will potentially be a massive problem to those who have booked their Christmas holidays with the airline or who are overseas now. Thousands of holiday makers are stranded and thousand of others could face problems getting a refund. The administrators must ensure that people are protected and helped as much as possible.
“Coming just before Christmas, this is disastrous news”.
