WENDY SAYS PEOPLE NEED MORE SUPPORT IN WINTER FREEZE
Wendy Alexander MSP said “it is time to get a grip – and get some grit”.
Since Sunday Renfrewshire council’s website admits that only main roads are being gritted and local grit bins are not being refilled so people who want to help by spreading some grit in their own streets cant. But in other parts of Scotland other roads are also getting attention. So why has Renfrewshire given up on other roads due to lack of grit?
Wendy said:
“I have been inundated with local complaints. Renfrewshire admits only main roads are being gritted. I want the Council to get a grip today and make an emergency approach to the Scottish Government, just as Fife has done, to ensure Renfrewshire has the grit it needs for vital gritting to continue and bins to be filled. It is time to sort out this crisis as more snow is forecast over the next few days.
“I have elderly constituents who tell me they have not been able to get out for days and fear the state of the pavements.
“It is not good enough for Renfrewshire to neglect all local roads and pavements. The public must be able to let the Council know what needs done and where.
Wendy said:
“Over the holiday period I have been inundated by constituents complaining about the lack of gritting on Renfrewshire roads. Many key roads and pavements are still covered by snow and ice and the NHS is having to cope with the consequences.
“With more freezing temperatures on their way it’s vital that both the Council and the Scottish government acts to keep Renfrewshire moving.”
“There is no doubt that this has been a very difficult period for local authorities and other organisations trying to keep roads open. But Renfrewshire should not fall behind other areas. It’s vital that roads and pavements are gritted for both public safety and the Renfrewshire economy.
